Jinjoo Yoo Trio + 1 at the Birdland (April 17)

Jazz pianist Jinjoo Yoo is bringing her drum-less trio back to the Birdland Jazz Club on April 17th(5:30-7:00pm). Her trio is featuring an ever-swinging rhythm section: Kihong Jang on guitar, and Chris Haney on Bass. As a special guest, Jinjoo invited bass clarinetist Stefano Doglioni whose dexterity in music and imaginative improvisation immediately captures people’s ears upon listening.

The band presents Jinjoo’s recent compositions as well as her arrangements on jazz classics including compositions of Elmo Hope, Bud Powell, and Charlie Parker.

“I’m Curious, her debut EP, shows her breadth as a straight-ahead stylist and though there are strong allusions to key elements and players of the mainstream tradition, she doesn’t exactly sound like anyone else.”

– Tom Greenland, “The New York City Jazz Record”
